Don't get married in the summer outside!

When planning your wedding, make sure you book your venue early so you can choose the right time of the year to get married. Don't settle for a venue if you have to get married in the summer. The spring and fall are the best times to get married in my opinion. The summers are too hot. We got married at Swan Harbor in the summer and it was too hot. We chose that time because we loved the venue so we just took whatever time they had available. I would have rather waited another year if it meant not getting married in the summer. The bugs were bad. You pay all that money to get your hair and makeup done and it is all for nothing if you are hot and sweaty.

My husband and I work full-time and have very busy schedules. Initially I thought that I would be able to do it all myself, but my job is very demanding. It was becoming too stressful so we decided to hire someone. It was the best thing we ever did. She took care of everything so we could relax. She was very experienced and exceeded our expectations. Since she does this full time, she did a much better job than we could have ever done.

We were fortunate enough to have around 2 years to plan out our wedding, but we have friends who wanted to get married in the fall and had to settle. From what we experienced, the venue books more than a year in advance. You may want to see what venues are available and then book your wedding date around that date. The photographer should be the next person you book. Trust me, the good ones fill up just as fast as the venues. You do not want to settle when it comes to finding a photographer. We highly recommend Kerry Paradis Photography. She was great and can recommend vendors for hair, DJ, video, etc. She was a pleasure to work with. When you first get engaged, don't put things off. Try and get everything you can done as soon as possible. We did that and were still rushing around the last two weeks. If I had to do it again, I may consider a wedding planner to keep things straight. That way we can enjoy the time leading up to the wedding a little better.

When I first got engaged we had planned the wedding for 18 months out. We initially thought that would be plenty of time to get everything done. The time goes by so fast, it seems like you never have enough time. The first thing you want to do is book your venue and then a close second would be to book the photographer. From talking to my friends, these were the two things that booked up first and they were right. Fortunately for us, we were able to book who we needed, but if we waited a little longer, we might not have been so fortunate. Do not procrastinate!
